AIHW Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) Validata integration
Download a Fact Sheet
CSnet® is a single system for multi-program multi-funder organisations
Chances are high that your organisation is juggling resources to meet the complex needs of clients & families who need support across funded programs. These same resources are stretched to meet the funding reporting demands across multiple government platforms and formats.
This combination makes it hard to see the client journey across services over time & even harder to understand ‘what works’, ‘for who’ and ‘why’.
CSnet is a ‘single enterprise solution’ for multi-funded multi-program organisations. No matter how big or small your organisation, CSnet can support you by providing client-centric and holistic support across your multiple services & to measure client outcomes.
We help your resources go further by increasing efficiency, demonstrating the effectiveness of your programs, and using data to improve.
CSnet reporting integrations
To streamline data collections across multiple programs, CSnet has successfully built many integrations to government and other reporting platforms. This is a key part of CSnet’s strategy to achieve greater organisational efficiency. The full list of CSnet integrations is set out on our website (add link)
CSnet integration with AIHW Validata
CSnet supports organisations funded under the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) program to collect and upload data to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) via the Validata web portal. The types of programs that upload to the AIHW via Validata include housing and homelessness support and family violence services.
CSnet is accredited by AIHW as an Approved Case Management system producing data for upload directly to the AIHW Validata platform. CSnet is one of a small handful of software solutions that meets these accreditation requirements https://www.aihw.gov.au/about-our-data/our-data-collections/specialist-homelessness-services-collection/approved-client-management-systems. The approval of CSnet by AIHW provides you with confidence that CSnet will support you to comply with all of your funding and reporting requirements for the SHS data collection.
CSnet produces a monthly data upload to Validata for organisations using the integration. There is no need to add data into SHIP, no more manual duplicate data entry. You enter all your client and support period data in one place in CSnet. Then simply upload the minimum data set that is required as part of your SHS funding to Validata directly from CSnet each month.

SHS ‘services and assistance’ can be aligned with the usual workflows, sessions, practice framework and links to the organisation’s Theory of Change
Recording Housing Stays
Organisations providing direct accommodation can record data on accommodation periods using the CSnet Housing Stays features.
Housing Stays record –
- The property offered for accommodation, capacity and availability, supporting vacancy management in real time
- The type of accommodation service – emergency/short term, medium term or long term
- Details of the anticipated start date, actual start and end dates of accommodation service
- An accommodation period is concluded when an end date on the client stay is set in CSnet.

Support for multiple family members
If multiple family members are being supported, CSnet features are flexible and streamline family support –
- Add multiple family members to show the family connections & relationships
- Add multiple family members to the same activity and automatically trigger the start of a support period for each family member
- Record sessions of support & types of support for all or any family members
- Remove family members from the activity if circumstances change
- End support periods for one, some or all family members in the activity
- Change the family composition over time.
CSnet records the family composition & relationships
CSnet records the family support separately to the family composition
Records for Unassisted Persons
CSnet streamlines data uploads for ‘Unassisted Persons’ –
- A record of the interaction or engagement is recorded in a session in an activity & status is set to ‘Not Accepted’
- The smaller SHS data set is collected for Unassisted Persons & is mandatory on changing the status to ‘Not Accepted’
CSnet inbuilt validation & monitoring of errors
CSnet has built-in features for validating the SHS data requirements to improve the quality of data collected throughout the month & avoid wasting time fixing errors in a rush at the end of the monthly reporting period –
- The SHS data requirements are automatically checked inside CSnet to identify potential errors in the data
- Errors are identified and visible inside the client activity so that the worker can fix errors ‘as they arise’ – tooltips and validation messages show on the screen to help the worker
- Team Leaders & Program Managers can monitor all errors across the whole SHS data collection as they arise – you can see details of the client, the worker, the error, and what the worker needs to do to fix it!
- Details of current & historical records of what was sent for a single client, and all clients, are visible on-screen
- Data Export Administration View shows the monthly export status across all client activities & errors to be fixed before the file can be sent
- A copy of the file exported to Validata is maintained.
